AP Psychology Teacher (part-time)
Role Summary
LEAF Academy is entering its second decade. Our AP Psychology program challenges students to think like researchers — bringing scientific rigor to the questions they already ask about themselves and the world around them.
We are looking for someone who:
knows psychology deeply, from the biological bases of behaviour to social and cultural influences on the mind,
designs learning that builds real analytical skills — not just familiarity with key studies — using visible thinking techniques and methods that meet different learners where they are, and
connects landmark experiments of the past to the psychological questions students encounter in their own lives.
Your mission is to help students think more rigorously about human behaviour, in a classroom built around visible thinking, real-world connection, and genuine individual growth.
Note:
"The AP Psychology course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. While considering the studies that have shaped the field, students explore and apply psychological theories, key concepts, and phenomena associated with major units of study, including biological bases of behavior, cognition, development, learning, social psychology, personality, and mental and physical health. Throughout the course, students apply psychological concepts and employ psychological research methods and data interpretation to evaluate claims, consider evidence, and effectively communicate ideas. The AP Psychology course is equivalent to an introductory college-level course psychology course " (Taken from the CollegeBoard website)
Core Responsibilities
Teaching: Prepare students for AP Psychology through learning rooted in primary research, data interpretation, and evidence-based reasoning.
Coach and mentor students individually and in small groups, supporting academic progress and intellectual confidence.
Connect psychological concepts to students' real lives, making the science of human behaviour tangible and relevant.
Use visible thinking techniques and competency-based approaches to build analytical habits and foster genuine intellectual curiosity.
Community Contribution: Contribute to the broader academic programme, including curriculum development and cross-disciplinary collaboration where relevant.
Selection Criteria
Subject Expertise: Strong academic background in Psychology or a related discipline. Familiarity with the AP Psychology curriculum and the CollegeBoard framework is a significant advantage.
AP Curriculum: Experience teaching or a demonstrated ability to prepare students for AP Psychology.
Analytical & Visible Thinking: Ability to teach beyond memorisation — developing students' capacity to evaluate claims, interpret data, and reason from evidence.
Student Rapport: A track record or strong probability of building trust-based relationships with young people that result in better engagement and growth.
Advanced English Proficiency: A high level of written and spoken English — enough to teach, write, and collaborate with confidence in a fully English-language environment
